How to Use the Calculator
To use the calculator, start by entering your basic information in the first section. You should select the correct grading scale, such as the US Standard 4.0 scale or Indian 10.0 Scale, and then enter your current cumulative GPA and the total number of credits you have finished so far. After that, move to the second section to add details for your current semester. You can type in each class name, select your expected grade from the menu, and enter the credit value for that course. If you are taking multiple classes, you can use the add class button to create more rows, or use the delete button next to a row if you make a mistake. The tool will automatically update your semester GPA, your updated cumulative GPA, and your total earned credits at the bottom of the page as you change the data.
How to Calculate SGPA and CGPA?
Calculating your semester grade point average, or SGPA, involves a few steps to turn your grades into a single number. First, you assign a numerical value to each letter grade based on your school’s scale, where an A might be a 4.0 and a B might be a 3.0. You then multiply that numerical value by the number of credit hours the class is worth to find your grade points for that specific course. Once you have done this for all your classes for the term, you add up all those grade points and divide the total by the sum of all the credit hours you took during that semester. This gives you a snapshot of your academic performance for that specific time period.
Calculating your cumulative grade point average, or CGPA, is very similar to the SGPA process but accounts for every class you have ever taken at your institution. To find this number manually, you add together the total grade points you have earned across all of your semesters combined. You then divide that sum by the total number of credits you have ever completed. Using a digital tool simplifies this because it can quickly merge your historical performance with your current semester projections without needing to do the manual multiplication and division yourself.
